So I bruised my heel really badly Thursday afternoon skating at lunch at the new Roosevelt park. It hurt. A lot!
It started raining Friday and isn't going to stop for days/weeks.
There are 2 Suppressors shows I'd really like to see I cannot go to because I already have theater and opera tickets.
The bright side is that all this is happening at the same time, and my heel is only bruised not fractured (I got x-rays). I couldn't skate because of the rain anyways. I couldn't dance because of my heel anyways.
Ten days from now everything will be sunny and I'll be ready to kick ass again!
The purpose of this blog page is to expose my comings, goings, and doings to the world. I do not know the answer to the question, "Why?"

10/25/2008 Skatalites in Santa Cruz
I caught the Saturday night show and it was just fantastic.
I had never been to Moe's before. It is about as big as Bottom of the Hill, but much nicer. There is an outside courtyard with good sound, tables, food, etc. The stage is only raised about 2 feet. Sound was good.
The crowd, especially the guys, looked like hippies and surfers. Far too many guys with baseball caps and/or flannel shirts. There was one woman who dressed up nicely in a rocksteady dress. Lots of people had jackets and sweatshirts on, even though it was hot. Lots of couples. No punks. No one I knew.
The Skatalites played for nearly 2 hours. The trombone player slide his slide all the way out, so his trombone ended up in 2 pieces, which cracked the band up. I got to bump fists with Lester Sterling at the end!
The crowd danced and for the most part danced well. The number of guys standing with their feet nailed to the floor was much less than typical. There wasn't a crush up front at all, so I could skank up and back almost at will.
The highlight song for me was Doreen singing "You're Wondering Now (this is the end)". I'm really sore this morning, but it was really special. Happy! :)

Rancid Aquabats at Warfield on Saturday 9/27/2008
Well...
That was fantastic.
My forearms are bruised, I've got a small black eye and I cannot stop smiling when I think about that show. It was so much better than when the Slackers opened for them at the Warfield a couple years ago.
The crowd was really into the Aquabats, who played lots of my favorite songs, tossed kids into the crowd, and declared their love of Rancid.
Rancid was great. They sounded superb. Their bass player has to be the best in the genre. Maxwell Murder was killer.
I sweated buckets, managed to never get knocked down, got up to the front a couple of times, and generally enjoyed myself. My son and his friends were way into it as well.
Any other eye witness reports?

woman skating
There was a young woman skating at Cunningham yesterday. She was gorgeous, blonde and an ok skater. It triggered a memory of when Don Schenck and I drove down to the shore to watch a big skate contest in 1977. Ellen Berryman vs. Laura Thornhill and Chris Chaput vs. Dennis Martinez! Ellen was a blonde great looking California girl, like the woman at the park.

20080717 Flogging Molly WITH IN A MILE OF HOME
Flogging Molly played a free show from 7-8:30 Thursday evening as part of the Music in the Park series in downtown San Jose. They were good, but the middle of their set wasn't super. The pit was really tough (or I'm a wimp), but I sustained no injuries. The pit was the only place people were moving.
