The Aquabats- punky ska rock from SoCal.  They have just reformed.  Courtney Love likes them.

Saturday 7/24/2004at THE BLANK CLUB in SJ
Firme- a east SJ band playing ska/latin/reggae worldmusic.  The opening band is from Bostonand plays reggae.  The SJ ska band Monkey recommends Firme.

Gaz Mayall - 25 Top Rare Ska Tracks

I've listened to this CD several times since I got it a week ago, and like it a lot.  It is all very early stuff from Jamaica taken off the vinyl collection of Gaz Mayall, a London DJ and music lover.  My favorite track is

Portions of the lyrics remind me of a Paul Simon song:

It's Time for the Peacocks

I listened to this CD last night while barbequing, and again this morning on the way into work.  The Peacocks are from Switzerland and they are a great band.  Sounds like the The Clash with a rock-a-billy upright bass.  Lyrics are good:
