The purpose of this blog page is to expose my comings, goings, and doings to the world. I do not know the answer to the question, "Why?"

20090102 000 comb Street Light
I had a great time. Streetlight was great but short. Reel Big Fish was super fun. The crowd was really into both bands and almost everyone knew all the words. I like feeling the floor move when everyone jumps up and down. There weren't any assholes dancing down front, just lots of good natured shoving and thrashing. I lost several pounds in sweat. It was terribly expensive. $6.50 for a decent beer in a plastic cup! And then my van got towed from Safeway. $15 cab ride and then $370 to get it out of the yard. There were 2 other groups who also got towed who were at the show. FUDGE! additional reflections I had mucho fun dancing last night. I didn't get knocked down at all, but my forearms are all bruised. I skanked hard. A cute girl told me I was "fucking awesome" (for my age!). sonicliving.com/event/1043986 www.bayareaska.com/SKABoard/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4495

I had mucho fun dancing last night. I didn't get knocked down at all, but my forearms are all bruised. I skanked hard. A cute girl told me I was "fucking awesome" (for my age!). Then today I made a 5-0 stall and spine transfer at CSP for the first time in over 6 months. I'm on a roll!

lunch today
I had a stressful morning, but was able to get out of the office for a couple of hours and get a good hour of skating in. The weather at the Lake Cunningham park was perfect today and there were only between 0 and 3 other skaters in the whole huge park. I felt really good, even though I didn't skate great. I decided I wanted to do an over-turned frontside kick turn into revert with my hand down on a flat bank. It should be easy, but I must of tried 50 times before I got one right. I didn't fall hard ever, but when I got back to work I could barely get out of my car!
I guess after I cooled down all the twisting I had done came back to haunt me. This growing old stuff kinda sucks.

Bright Side
So I bruised my heel really badly Thursday afternoon skating at lunch at the new Roosevelt park. It hurt. A lot!
It started raining Friday and isn't going to stop for days/weeks.
There are 2 Suppressors shows I'd really like to see I cannot go to because I already have theater and opera tickets.
The bright side is that all this is happening at the same time, and my heel is only bruised not fractured (I got x-rays). I couldn't skate because of the rain anyways. I couldn't dance because of my heel anyways.
Ten days from now everything will be sunny and I'll be ready to kick ass again!

10/25/2008 Skatalites in Santa Cruz
I caught the Saturday night show and it was just fantastic.
I had never been to Moe's before. It is about as big as Bottom of the Hill, but much nicer. There is an outside courtyard with good sound, tables, food, etc. The stage is only raised about 2 feet. Sound was good.
The crowd, especially the guys, looked like hippies and surfers. Far too many guys with baseball caps and/or flannel shirts. There was one woman who dressed up nicely in a rocksteady dress. Lots of people had jackets and sweatshirts on, even though it was hot. Lots of couples. No punks. No one I knew.
The Skatalites played for nearly 2 hours. The trombone player slide his slide all the way out, so his trombone ended up in 2 pieces, which cracked the band up. I got to bump fists with Lester Sterling at the end!
The crowd danced and for the most part danced well. The number of guys standing with their feet nailed to the floor was much less than typical. There wasn't a crush up front at all, so I could skank up and back almost at will.
The highlight song for me was Doreen singing "You're Wondering Now (this is the end)". I'm really sore this morning, but it was really special. Happy! :)
