The English Beat in San Jose 8/5 Thursday

I saw them 2 weeks ago in Santa Cruz. They were great. Dave
Wakeling has much better musicians with him, including the guitarist
from the Specials. They played a couple of great Specials songs and
all of the great Beat songs. If you live in the South SF Bay and
don't go to this, you will probably go to hell and have to listen to
emo crap for eternity. Don't take a chance!

The English Beat (some of the following is wrong, not my fault)
Considered one of the most important and earliest ska groups
The Beat’s saxaphonist Saxa played with the likes of Elvis and The
Beatles
The Beat has toured with well-known artists such as REM, David Bowie
and The Police
Has a history of politically charged songs such as “Free Nelson Mandela”
Gained popularity in Australia and the UK
The Beat has regrouped with original member Ranking Roger’s son on
vocals and Andy Hamilton’s son, Mark Hamilton, on saxophone.

The Odd Numbers
San Jose band features Dave Baisa (vocals/guitar), Dave Miller (bass/
backing), and John Cummings (drums/backing vocals).
Heavily influenced by the 60s beat such as Motown, The Who, and The Jam.
In 1997 opened for a Pearl Jam concert in Santa Cruz
Band member Dave Baisa says about San Jose, "We have a good reception
in San Jose. It has always been good for us. I wish every place was
San Jose, actually."

San Jose summers wouldn’t be the same without Music in the Park,
Downtown's most anticipated concert series. Thanks everyone for
coming out to enjoy alternative, R&B, reggae, rock and jazz in free
Thursday night performances.

5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Plaza de Cesar Chavez
(at Market and San Carlos streets)

This is the free concert series' 18th season.

Food and beverages are available at the park.

Watch the video
Surf Sunday at Hotel Utah on 7/30/2006. The line up was outstanding, with Madeira opening, Pollo del Mar in the middle, and Slacktone closing. The place was packed. There were pyronauts, lava rats, coppertones, and even a phil dirt attending. They are from Indiana or there about. http://www.myspace.com/themadeira
